I should have said my story is IN 'Heart Body and Soul' that is the name of the book. My story is called 'Red Right Returning.'

I hope the misstatement did not alarm or confuse.

I have set up a seed bell and a suet cake on the fire escape. Just strapped them there with rubber bands. The birds took a while to find the food, but they appreciated it during the last fierce snow of spring, (we hope the last, anyway!) last week.

Last night around 7 pm I took Hazel out for her evening walk. We came back up the four flights of stairs and I went into the kitchen to make a pie.

I was up to my elbows in lard when I heard her speaking. She was doing a peculiar closed mouth bark that she uses when she wants to tell us something. She was sitting by the door too, instead of going ( Read more... )

Everything is melting and dripping, and the ground is not frozen all the way hard, but hard enough that the water can't soak in. That is why mud! Ice and mud together for a while, then comes shoots and worms. Just now the worms are still down deep, safe bow the frozen zone. I wonder where the horseshoe crabs go? Winter is done. It may snow again, it might, but the back of the cold has been broken.

You know the joke about seasons around here? We have: early winter, winter, mud season, and road repair.

Daughter and I are in hospital for her yearly EEG. Arrived last night. We will be here until Sunday.
Time to watch tv, eat hospital food, and nap. There is not much else to do. I have my phone and kindle. She has a paper she needs to write.

Finished the Nelson book. Am now reading 'Every man will do his duty' which is a collection of first hand accounts of the time. Letters and memoirs from all kinds of men, (all men, at least as far as we know,) from guys before the mast, all the way up.

Oh, and it has Basil Hall, not only once but twice!

Nelson, chasing the French, stopped at Gib to provision. This done they took the opportunity to wash ships underwear. While this was still wet and soapy a tip came from one Donald Campbell, who was, oddly, in the Portuguese Navy.

Victory went roaring off to catch Villeneuve, leaving behind all the underwear!
